Getting started
Coffer is a manual-entry tracker — you add what you own, and Coffer organises it. There's no bank linking, no login to external accounts, and no automatic import of transactions. This is by design: your data never leaves your device.
- Tap the + button from the Holdings or Today screen to add a new account or holding.
- Every holding belongs to an account (your source of funds). You can create accounts for savings, salary, gifts — whatever makes sense for you.
- The Flow view shows how money moved from sources into holdings — it's the best place to see the full picture.
Importing a CSV
Coffer can import holdings from a CSV file. To import:
- Go to Settings → Import CSV.
- Select a CSV from your Files app or share one directly from another app.
- Coffer will show a preview before committing any changes so you can check that columns matched correctly.
The CSV file is processed entirely on your device — it is never uploaded anywhere. If your CSV doesn't map cleanly, email us a sample (with dummy data is fine) and we'll help you format it.
Multi-currency & foreign exchange
Coffer supports any currency. When you add a holding you can set its currency independently of your display currency.
- FX rates are fetched periodically in the background. When a fresh rate isn't available, Coffer shows the last known rate with an amber indicator so you know it may be stale.
- Your home currency (the currency used for totals) can be changed in Settings → Home currency.
- Indian number formatting (lakh/crore) is available in Settings alongside standard international formatting.
iCloud sync — using Coffer on iPhone & iPad
If you're signed in to iCloud on all your devices, Coffer syncs automatically via Apple's CloudKit. No setup is required beyond being signed in to the same Apple ID.
- Sync is private: your data travels through Apple's encrypted iCloud infrastructure. Coffer has no server and cannot read your data.
- If a sync conflict occurs (e.g. you edited the same holding on two devices while offline), Coffer surfaces it in Settings so you can resolve it — we never silently merge conflicting financial data.
- To disable sync for Coffer, go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps using iCloud, and turn off Coffer.
- Coffer is fully usable offline. Any edits made without a connection will sync the next time your device is online.
Exporting or erasing your data
Export
To export your data as a CSV, go to Settings → Export CSV. The file is saved to your Files app or can be shared via any app on your device. It never goes through Coffer's servers (there are none).
Erase all data
To wipe everything from Coffer, go to Settings → Erase all data. This permanently deletes your on-device store. After erasing, the iCloud copy is also removed. This cannot be undone — export a CSV first if you want a backup.
Deleting the Coffer app also removes all local data. To manage the iCloud copy after deletion, go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.
Managing your subscription & restoring purchases
Coffer subscriptions are billed by Apple through the App Store. Coffer never sees your payment details.
- Cancel or change your plan: iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Coffer. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.
- Restore purchases after reinstalling or on a new device: open Coffer → Settings → Restore Purchases, or just sign in with the same Apple ID — your purchase will be recognised automatically.
- Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request one.
- Family sharing (Household plan): The Household subscription can be shared via Apple Family Sharing. The purchaser manages the subscription; family members access it automatically once added to the same Family Sharing group.
Privacy
Coffer is built with privacy by design. There are no ads, no third-party trackers, and no server that ever receives your financial data. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
